SHERLEY DAVILMAR, born in Haiti and immigrating to New York City at four-years-old, Sherley Davilmar developed a love of Traditional Haitian dance at the age of 11. Determined to re-educate her peers on the negative stereotyping of Haiti in the larger mainstream culture and honor her heritage, she began studying with Haitian dance giants while still in high school, such as Pierre Desrameaux and Mikerline Pierre. Mrs. Davilmar is the Artistic Director and choreographer of La Troupe Zetwal, a Haitian dance company founded in 2001. She has taught Haitian dance at various New York City Public schools as well as facilitated and implemented Haitian cultural programs sponsored by the New York Department of Cultural Affairs.
